About the Role
Location: Atlanta, GA or Remote / Hybrid
Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire (Initial 3–6 month contract with potential for full-time hire)
Reports To: Director of Creative Technology
We’re seeking a Creative Technologist for Immersive Media Spaces to bridge the physical and digital worlds through architectural, audiovisual, and interactive systems. You’ll be at the forefront of crafting immersive, narrative-driven spaces — ranging from projection-based installations and interactive exhibits to spatialized media environments powered by real-time engines.
This is a hands-on, cross-disciplinary role requiring fluency in architectural modeling, AV integration, and real-time interactive development. You will collaborate with a creative team of designers, artists, and engineers to build experiences that are technically sound, emotionally resonant, and unforgettable.
While primarily remote or hybrid, this role requires occasional travel (typically one to two weeks, a couple of times per year) for on-site installations and project deployments.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Collaboration
Lead development on interactive and immersive environments, from concept through deployment
Supervise and mentor small teams of 1–4 internal and external developers, scaling as needed by project scope
Act as a technical liaison between creative, architectural, and engineering teams, ensuring feasibility and fidelity across disciplines
Development & Prototyping
Integrate and prototype real-time systems using Unity or Unreal Engine, including spatial audio, projection mapping, and responsive media
Translate architectural plans and CAD models (Vectorworks / Revit) into real-time environments for visualization, simulation, and integration testing
Integration & Systems
Collaborate with AV integrators to develop media delivery systems, sensor networks, projection layouts, and lighting / sound control systems
Oversee documentation, version control, and deployment pipelines for all immersive systems
Innovation & Research
Research and implement cutting-edge tools, workflows, and technologies for physical-digital convergence
Job requirements
What We’re Looking For
Experience
5+ years of professional experience in immersive media, experiential design, creative technology, or a closely related field
Demonstrated experience delivering interactive or spatial digital projects from prototype to deployment in public-facing physical environments (museums, exhibitions, immersive installations, or permanent spaces)
Experience mentoring or leading small technical or cross-disciplinary teams
Hands-on experience architecting and deploying real-time systems into physical spaces — not solely hardware engineering or electronics-focused roles
Core Capabilities
Strong expertise in real-time interactive development and system prototyping
Ability to bridge creative vision with technical feasibility across physical and digital environments
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Clear communication, documentation, and collaboration abilities
Technical Proficiency (Core Requirements)
Advanced experience with TouchDesigner in real-time interactive installations
Strong proficiency in Python scripting (required) for system logic, automation, and integration
Demonstrated experience building structured real-time pipelines (inputs → processing → outputs)
Proven experience integrating interactive systems with:
AV hardware
Media servers (Pixera, Watchout, Disguise)
LED / projection systems
Sensors and control protocols (OSC, MIDI, DMX, ArtNet, NDI, etc.)
Strong understanding of latency, synchronization, networking fundamentals, and long-running system reliability in public environments
Experience with Unreal Engine (interactive use cases preferred — not only cinematic rendering)
Nice to Have (Advanced / Innovation Layer)
Experience with Node.js, particularly for backend integrations
Experience integrating LLMs or AI-driven workflows into interactive or spatial environments
Familiarity with generative media pipelines or real-time AI systems
Working knowledge of Vectorworks, Revit, or similar architectural modeling tools
Background in themed entertainment, museums, public art, or media architecture
Familiarity with Dante audio and spatial audio systems
