Job description

ABOUT US!

At Sourcing Unicorns, we recruit globally across the creative and experiential industry, always on the lookout for exceptional talent to bring bold ideas to life. For this opportunity, we’re proud to collaborate with this unique team to find the unicorn, the one who will truly make a difference. Together, we ensure a smooth and human-centered hiring experience that reflects the studio’s vision.

ABOUT THE VENUE & CONTEXT

The New York venue is a permanent programmable multimedia space designed for immersive, projection-mapped experiences. It hosts a wide range of high-end live events, including luxury weddings, corporate events, galas, keynotes, fashion shows, premieres, and brand activations. The venue operates within a multi-stakeholder environment, where programming, technical operations, and immersive content must align seamlessly with client expectations. The Line Producer brings structure, cost control, and forward planning to AV and multimedia operations, coordinating show and events teams to ensure consistent delivery and a high level of client satisfaction.

POSITION’S OBJECTIVES

The Technical Director is the day-to-day technical authority for a permanent programmable multimedia space. They ensure that every technical setup (audio, lighting, video, rigging) respects:

  • The integrity of the cross functional AV teams within the venue (rigging, video, projection, audio, lighting)

  • The integrity and quality of the projection mapping

  • The quality of the immersive experience

  • Safety, feasibility, and operational efficiency

  • Budget constraints and cost optimization

  • Maintenance planning and scheduling (semi-annual)

The TD is hands-on, present on-site during key events, load-ins, and rehearsals. They challenge vendor-driven setups, prevent technical conflicts, and guarantee the smooth execution of all AV operations in a luxury, high-stakes, live-event and show environment

FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Technical Leadership & Validation

  • Review and approve all technical designs, room plots, and event setups (Vectorworks, drawings provided by HODs).

  • Ensure no technical element (speakers, truss, lighting, decor) interferes with projection mapping, sightlines, or safety.

  • Act as the final decision-maker on technical feasibility and equipment choices.

  • Maintain the immersive integrity of the room for every event type (weddings, galas, fashion shows, corporate events).

2. On-the-Ground Supervision

  • Be physically present during key load-ins, rehearsals, and high-stakes events.

  • Inspect and approve setups before doors open.

  • Troubleshoot live AV issues and guide freelance tech teams.

  • Ensure smooth transitions between events with tight turnarounds.

3. Vendor & HOD Management

  • Work with long-term freelance Heads of Audio, Lighting, Video, and Rigging.

  • Review, question, and push back on proposed setups when overspecified or misaligned.

  • Ensure vendors operate within budget and technical constraints.

  • Shift the venue from vendor-driven decision-making to MF technical decision-making.

4. Cost Optimization & Standardization

  • Analyze technical quotes and ensure costs align with event needs.

  • Recommend smarter, more efficient setups without compromising quality.

  • Contribute to the evaluation of in-house equipment purchases to reduce recurring rental expenses.

  • Define and implement standardized AV setups when possible.

5. Systems Quality & Workflow Management

  • Guarantee proper audio routing, avoiding issues like single-line interference.

  • Ensure recordings are clean and usable for post-production (client deliverables).

  • Maintain consistency and reliability across projection and playback systems.

6. Internal & External Coordination

  • Collaborate closely with the production/sales team and the Production Coordinator.

  • Work harmoniously with the operations team.

  • Provide clear communication and documentation to all stakeholders.

  • Report issues, risks, and required improvements to the Venue’s business manager.

EXPECTATIONS & REQUIRED QUALITIES

Must-Have Experience

  • Experience supervising technical crews and managing vendor relationships.

  • Experience balancing creative/client expectations with technical feasibility and budgets.

  • Comfortable as the technical authority in a fast-paced, premium venue.

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with projection mapping or immersive AV environments.

  • Experience in architecturally sensitive spaces (historic venues, rigging limitations).

  • Familiarity with both event worlds and show worlds (fashion, corporate, live music)

  • Proficiency with both Mac and PC environments.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

  • Ability to work event-driven hours (early mornings / late nights during peak periods).

  • Ability to physically inspect, assess, and supervise technical setups.

WORK CONDITIONS

  • Salary range: USD $110 - $ 125k

  • Full-time, on-site role with requirements to be in Downtown Manhattan 5 days a week.

  • Event-based rhythm with peak periods in Q4 requiring occasional early mornings or late finishes.

  • Limited travel; this is a venue-based operational role.
